Terms & Conditions

These Terms govern your use of the Nora's Lantern website, platform and related services. Please read them carefully before you continue.

Last updated: 19 August 2026  ·  Version: 1.0

1. About These Terms

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Nora’s Lantern website, platform and related services (“Platform”).

The legal business name is Nora’s Lantern Care. Until any company incorporation is completed, any reference to “Nora’s Lantern Care”, “Nora’s Lantern”, “we”, “us” or “our” in these Terms refers to the business operating the Platform and, once incorporated, to the relevant registered legal entity.

Nora’s Lantern operates an online platform designed to help parents and guardians discover and connect with nannies.

These Terms apply to website visitors, parents and guardians using the Platform, and nannies registering or using the Platform.

By accessing or using the Platform, creating an account, contacting a nanny, registering as a nanny, or purchasing a service through the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use the Platform.

These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and, where applicable, our Nanny Registration & Terms of Engagement and any Parent Terms or Terms of Business that apply to a particular service.

2. About Nora's Lantern

Nora’s Lantern provides an online platform through which parents and guardians can browse nanny profiles and, subject to the applicable service and payment requirements, connect with nannies.

Nora’s Lantern is not itself the nanny and does not provide childcare services.

Unless expressly stated otherwise in a separate written agreement, Nora’s Lantern does not employ nannies and is not responsible for paying a nanny’s wages, salary, National Insurance, tax, holiday pay or other employment-related benefits.

Any employment, engagement or working arrangement between a parent/guardian and nanny is subject to the agreement made between those parties.

3. Eligibility to Use the Platform

To use the Platform as a parent or guardian, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • have the legal capacity to enter into a contract;
  • provide accurate and complete information;
  • use the Platform for lawful purposes; and
  • comply with these Terms.

Nannies must also meet the eligibility and registration requirements set out in the Nanny Registration & Terms of Engagement.

4. Creating an Account

Certain features of the Platform may require you to create an account.

You are responsible for:

  • providing accurate information;
  • keeping your login details secure;
  • keeping your account information up to date;
  • preventing unauthorised access to your account; and
  • notifying Nora’s Lantern if you believe your account has been compromised.

You must not create an account using false information or impersonate another person.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate an account where we reasonably believe that information is false, misleading, fraudulent or otherwise breaches these Terms.

5. Nanny Profiles

Nanny profiles may contain information supplied by the nanny, including information about:

  • experience;
  • qualifications;
  • childcare experience;
  • availability;
  • location;
  • skills;
  • languages;
  • interests;
  • photographs; and
  • other relevant information.

Although Nora’s Lantern may carry out checks or verification where stated on a nanny’s profile, a profile, verification badge or other indication of verification does not constitute a guarantee that a nanny is suitable for a particular family.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for satisfying themselves that a nanny is appropriate for their individual requirements.

Nora’s Lantern does not guarantee that any particular nanny will be available, suitable or willing to accept an engagement.

6. Safeguarding and Verification

The safety of children is extremely important to Nora’s Lantern.

Where Nora’s Lantern carries out checks, we will explain the nature of those checks and, where appropriate, indicate their completion on the nanny’s profile.

However, checks may have limitations and information can change after a check has been completed.

Parents and guardians should carry out any additional checks they consider appropriate before engaging a nanny, including, where appropriate:

  • checking references;
  • confirming identity;
  • confirming qualifications;
  • confirming right to work;
  • discussing childcare experience;
  • requesting appropriate safeguarding information; and
  • conducting an interview.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for deciding whether to engage a nanny.

7. Parent Responsibility

Nora’s Lantern is a platform for introducing parents and guardians to nannies.

Parents and guardians are responsible for:

  • assessing the suitability of any nanny;
  • providing accurate information about their childcare requirements;
  • communicating honestly with nannies;
  • agreeing working arrangements directly with the nanny;
  • complying with applicable employment and tax obligations;
  • ensuring appropriate safeguarding arrangements are in place; and
  • supervising the nanny appropriately in accordance with the agreed arrangement.

Nora’s Lantern does not guarantee the quality, conduct, performance or suitability of any nanny.

8. Nanny Responsibility

Nannies using Nora’s Lantern agree to:

  • provide accurate and truthful information;
  • keep their profile up to date;
  • disclose relevant qualifications and experience accurately;
  • provide truthful information regarding checks and references;
  • comply with applicable laws and safeguarding requirements;
  • behave professionally towards parents and children;
  • communicate honestly regarding availability; and
  • comply with the Nanny Registration & Terms of Engagement.

A nanny must not knowingly provide false, misleading or fraudulent information.

9. Using Nora's Lantern

You agree not to use the Platform:

  • for any unlawful purpose;
  • to commit fraud;
  • to impersonate another person;
  • to harass, threaten or abuse another user;
  • to upload malicious software;
  • to interfere with the operation of the Platform;
  • to collect another user’s information without permission;
  • to publish offensive, discriminatory or inappropriate content;
  • to attempt to gain unauthorised access to another account; or
  • in any way that could harm Nora’s Lantern, its users or children.

10. Messaging and Communication

Nora’s Lantern may provide messaging functionality allowing parents and nannies to communicate through the Platform.

Users must use messaging responsibly and professionally.

Nora’s Lantern may use automated systems to detect certain prohibited content, including attempts to share direct contact details where this is restricted by the Platform.

Users must not use the messaging system to:

  • harass another user;
  • send threatening or abusive messages;
  • send fraudulent content;
  • distribute spam;
  • share inappropriate material; or
  • circumvent Platform rules.

Nora’s Lantern may restrict, suspend or remove messaging functionality where necessary to protect users or the Platform.

11. Keeping Transactions on the Platform

Where Nora’s Lantern requires a parent or guardian to purchase an introduction or contact-unlock service, users must not deliberately circumvent the Platform in order to avoid applicable Nora’s Lantern fees.

This may include deliberately attempting to exchange telephone numbers, email addresses, WhatsApp details, social-media handles or other direct contact information before the relevant Platform service has been purchased where such sharing is restricted by Nora’s Lantern.

Nora’s Lantern may restrict accounts or take other reasonable action where it reasonably believes a user is attempting to circumvent the Platform’s payment system.

Nothing in this section is intended to prevent users from exercising any legal right they have.

12. Nora's Lantern's £99 Contact Unlock Service

Where displayed on the Platform, parents or guardians may be required to pay a one-time £99 fee to unlock a nanny’s direct contact details.

The applicable price will be displayed before payment is completed.

Unless otherwise stated, the £99 fee relates to the Platform service provided by Nora’s Lantern and does not constitute payment to the nanny.

The fee does not guarantee:

  • that the nanny will accept the parent or guardian;
  • that the nanny will be available;
  • that an employment relationship will be formed;
  • that childcare services will be provided;
  • that the parent will ultimately engage the nanny; or
  • that the nanny will remain available after contact details have been unlocked.

The exact service included in the £99 fee will be clearly described before purchase.

12A. One-Time Placement Fee

Where a parent or guardian proceeds to engage a nanny introduced through Nora’s Lantern, a separate one-time £100 placement fee may apply, as clearly stated before the parent or guardian commits to the placement.

The £100 placement fee is payable by the parent or guardian and is separate from the £99 contact-unlock fee.

The £100 placement fee is charged once in connection with the relevant placement and is not a recurring fee unless Nora’s Lantern expressly states otherwise before payment.

The circumstances in which the placement fee becomes payable, what is included in the placement service, and any applicable refund or cancellation rights will be clearly explained to the parent or guardian before the fee is charged.

The placement fee is not a fee charged to the nanny for finding or trying to find work. Employment-agency rules prohibit charging work-seekers fees for work-finding services, and Nora’s Lantern will operate its nanny-facing service accordingly.

13. Payments

Payments made through the Platform may be processed by a third-party payment provider.

By making a payment, you confirm that:

  • the payment information you provide is accurate;
  • you are authorised to use the payment method; and
  • you authorise the applicable payment to be taken.

Nora’s Lantern does not normally store complete payment-card details.

Payment processing may be subject to the payment provider’s own terms and privacy policies.

14. Refunds and Cancellation

Your statutory rights are not affected by these Terms.

Where a consumer has a legal right to cancel a service purchased online, Nora’s Lantern will provide the applicable cancellation rights.

If you ask Nora’s Lantern to begin providing the relevant service before the expiry of a statutory cancellation period, we may require your express consent to begin providing the service immediately.

Where permitted by law, if you expressly request immediate performance of the service and acknowledge the applicable consequences of doing so, your cancellation rights may be affected once the service has been fully performed.

Any refund will be handled in accordance with applicable UK consumer law and the specific service purchased.

Nothing in these Terms removes or restricts any legal right you may have.

15. Prices

All prices will be displayed clearly before you complete a purchase.

Where applicable, prices will state whether VAT is included.

Nora’s Lantern reserves the right to change future prices, but a price change will not affect an order that has already been accepted and paid for unless otherwise permitted by law.

16. No Guarantee of Employment or Childcare

Nora’s Lantern does not guarantee that using the Platform will result in:

  • an interview;
  • an introduction;
  • employment;
  • a nanny engagement;
  • a particular number of applicants;
  • a particular standard of childcare; or
  • any particular outcome.

The decision to engage a nanny remains with the parent or guardian.

The decision to accept an engagement remains with the nanny.

17. Relationship Between Parents and Nannies

Any agreement concerning:

  • pay;
  • working hours;
  • duties;
  • holiday;
  • notice;
  • expenses;
  • employment status;
  • tax;
  • National Insurance;
  • pension obligations; and
  • other working conditions

must be agreed between the relevant parties and handled in accordance with applicable law.

Nora’s Lantern is not responsible for enforcing the terms of a private agreement between a parent and nanny unless Nora’s Lantern has expressly agreed to provide such a service.

18. User Content

Users may upload or submit information, photographs, reviews, descriptions and other content to the Platform (“User Content”).

You remain responsible for User Content that you submit.

By submitting User Content, you confirm that:

  • it is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
  • you have the right to submit it;
  • it does not infringe another person’s rights;
  • it is not unlawful or fraudulent; and
  • it complies with these Terms.

You grant Nora’s Lantern a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, display and distribute User Content solely as reasonably necessary to operate, promote and improve the Platform.

You may request removal of User Content where appropriate, subject to our legal and operational obligations.

19. Photographs and Personal Information

If you upload a photograph or personal information to the Platform, you must have the appropriate rights and permissions to do so.

You must not upload photographs or information about children or other individuals without the appropriate authority or permission.

Nora’s Lantern may remove content that it reasonably believes breaches these Terms or creates a safeguarding, legal or security concern.

20. Reviews and Feedback

Where the Platform allows users to submit reviews or feedback, reviews must be genuine and based on the user’s actual experience.

Users must not:

  • submit fake reviews;
  • submit reviews on behalf of another person;
  • offer or accept payment for a misleading review;
  • deliberately manipulate ratings; or
  • submit defamatory or abusive content.

Nora’s Lantern may moderate or remove reviews where reasonably necessary.

21. Intellectual Property

The Nora’s Lantern name, branding, logo, website design, software, graphics, text and other Platform materials are owned by or licensed to Nora’s Lantern unless otherwise stated.

You may use the Platform for its intended personal purpose.

You must not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, sell, licence or commercially exploit Nora’s Lantern’s intellectual property without prior written permission.

22. Platform Availability

We aim to keep Nora’s Lantern available and functioning properly, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.

The Platform may occasionally be unavailable because of:

  • maintenance;
  • technical problems;
  • security incidents;
  • updates;
  • third-party service failures;
  • circumstances outside our reasonable control; or
  • other operational reasons.

We may modify, suspend or discontinue features of the Platform where reasonably necessary.

23. Third-Party Services

The Platform may use third-party services, including payment providers, identity-checking services, analytics providers, hosting providers and communication services.

Nora’s Lantern is not responsible for the operation of third-party services outside our reasonable control.

Your use of third-party services may also be subject to their own terms and policies.

24. Privacy and Data Protection

Nora’s Lantern collects and uses personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Our Privacy Policy explains:

  • what information we collect;
  • why we collect it;
  • how we use it;
  • who we may share it with;
  • how long we retain it; and
  • your applicable data-protection rights.

Section 13 of the Privacy Policy covers how cookies and similar technologies are used.

Users should read the Privacy Policy before using the Platform.

25. Safeguarding Concerns

If you have a safeguarding concern involving a child, nanny or parent using Nora’s Lantern, you should report it to Nora’s Lantern as soon as reasonably possible.

Nora’s Lantern may investigate reports and may suspend or remove accounts where appropriate.

Where necessary or legally required, information may be shared with relevant authorities or organisations.

Nora’s Lantern does not replace emergency services or statutory safeguarding authorities.

26. Suspension and Termination

Nora’s Lantern may suspend or terminate an account where we reasonably believe that a user:

  • has breached these Terms;
  • has provided false or misleading information;
  • has engaged in fraudulent activity;
  • presents a safeguarding concern;
  • has abused another user;
  • has attempted to circumvent Platform fees;
  • has misused the Platform; or
  • has otherwise acted in a way that may harm Nora’s Lantern or its users.

Where appropriate, we may provide notice before taking action, but this may not always be possible where immediate action is reasonably necessary.

27. Our Responsibility to You

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

This includes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence and liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Where Nora’s Lantern provides services to a consumer, those services will be provided with the rights and protections required by applicable consumer law.

Nora’s Lantern is not responsible for matters that arise solely from a private arrangement between a parent and nanny, except where applicable law provides otherwise or Nora’s Lantern has expressly agreed to be responsible for a particular service.

28. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Nora’s Lantern will not be responsible for losses that:

  • could not reasonably have been expected when the contract was formed;
  • result from information supplied incorrectly by a user;
  • arise from a user’s private agreement with another user; or
  • result from circumstances outside Nora’s Lantern’s reasonable control.

Nothing in this section is intended to remove or reduce your statutory consumer rights.

29. Indemnity

Where permitted by law, you agree to compensate Nora’s Lantern for reasonable losses, liabilities, costs or expenses arising directly from your unlawful use of the Platform or your material breach of these Terms.

This clause does not apply to the extent that the loss was caused by Nora’s Lantern’s own negligence, breach of contract or unlawful conduct.

30. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect:

  • changes to the Platform;
  • changes in law;
  • changes in our services;
  • security requirements; or
  • improvements to the way Nora’s Lantern operates.

The latest version will be published on the Platform.

Where a change materially affects an existing contract with a consumer, we will provide any notice required by law.

31. Complaints

If you have a complaint about Nora’s Lantern, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve the issue.

Email: littlelantern@hotmail.com

Please provide:

  • your name;
  • the email address associated with your account;
  • details of your complaint; and
  • any relevant supporting information.

We aim to respond to complaints as soon as reasonably practicable.

32. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

If you are a consumer, you will continue to benefit from any mandatory legal protections available to you under the law applicable to your circumstances.

The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer rights concerning jurisdiction.

33. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be treated as removed or modified to the minimum extent necessary.

The remaining provisions will continue to apply.

34. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Nora’s Lantern Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and any other terms expressly incorporated into them, form the agreement governing your use of the Platform.

Where a separate written agreement applies to a particular service, that agreement will take precedence to the extent of any inconsistency.
